Vanice Gentry Carswell of Clemmons, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2018 at Trinity Elms. She was born June 25, 1930 in Surry County to Andrew Luther and Nancy Ray Gentry. She was a member of Mineral Spring Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and hand bells. Vanice found joy outside working in her flowers and plants as well as doing crafts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Carswell Jr.; and three brothers and seven sisters, Emma Martin, Chloe Gentry, Dorothy Montgomery, Alva Long, Edith Masoncup, Roy Gentry, Lois Goodwill, Ray Gentry, Roger Gentry Sr., and Frances Burcham. Surviving are her son, Wayne Carswell (Nancy); a grandson, Tommy Carswell; a great-granddaughter, Maddie Carswell; and a lifelong friend, Hellen Hutchins. A graveside service will be held 11 am, Saturday at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with Dr. Cecil Cave officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
