Winston-Salem, NC- Mrs. Phyllis Coleman Overstreet, passed away January 13, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center. A memorial service for will be held Monday, January 16 at 6 PM at Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Chaplain Doug Evans officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-6 PM prior to the service. A graveside and committal service will be held in Virginia Memorial Park in Forest, VA on Saturday, January 21, 2011 at 1 PM.
Mrs. Overstreet was born in Lychburg, VA to Howard R. and Hilda Barton Coleman. She was educated in the Lynchburg Public School System and attended American University in Washington, DC. She worked for more than ten years as an administrator for Lynchburg Foundry and was also employed by Unical and the Department of the Navy. Due to either work or education requirements she and her husband of 58 years, Frederick G. Overstreet have resided in Lynchburg, Lawrenceville, Lexington, and Richmond, VA and New Orleans, LA. They moved to Winston-Salem in 1981. Her giving spirit and importance of family was reflected in her love of Christmas. She liked to spend time cooking and going to yard sales.
She will be remembered and cherished by her husband of Pfafftown,NC; sons, John Gordon Overstreet of Winston-Salem and Matthew Barton Overstreet of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Melissa (Jeremy) Baker of Lewisville, NC, Christian Logan Poe and Zachary Overstreet of Winston-Salem; great-grandchildren, Noah and Lillian Baker and sisters-in-law, Dolly Coleman of Madison Heights, VA and Ann Newcomb of Lychburg, VA. She is preceded in death by her parents and step father, Letcher Newcomb; brothers, George Lee and Harold Coleman; half-brother, Wayne Newcomb; sister, Jacqueline Ann Young; and grandson, Christian Overstreet.
