Ruth retired from Pinellas County Schools as a cafeteria manager for Nina Harris Exceptional School. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, having memories of the church long before the present building. Ruth loved to travel, visiting 48 of the 50 states. Bob died way too soon to make it to the last two, but she enjoyed her memories. Ruth had macular degeneration, which brought her much sadness and frustration. She was forced to learn how to navigate as a blind person in 1992 having to ride the bus to get to her exercise program. From that negative experience came the greatest joy of her last twenty years. She met a young name named Paul Wells on that bus. Paul introduced her to his friends in the gay community and “Grandma Ruth” was born. Shawn Dickerson joined this friendship and they were like the “3 Musketeers.” They showed up to help out at a family party in complete tuxedos!! From this came friends too many to say, but some of her closest were Sonny Haskins and Wannie, Buddy and Tony, Bruce, Anthony, and her dearest friends Mark Thomason and Shane Mahoney. She loved all of her friends and, the Dallmann family cherishes the love and friendship of all, including ones not named here. Grandma Ruth had a place of honor on The Pro Shop float in the Gay Pride Parade every year. Another great friend was Kathy Knoop who gave tirelessly to her care the last few years. Ruth loved her family and friends and was blessed with many who adopted her as their “Grandma Ruth”. She loved to crochet and created afghans that are treasured memories for both family and friends. Services will be held at Sylvan Abbey, Clearwater, FL, on Saturday, Sept 20. Visitation from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services and interment immediately following. Special thank you to Suncoast Hospice and Pastor Joe and Jane Cochran of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Largo, Florida.
