Robert is survived by his wife, Susan, his granddaughters Jamie and Michelle and great grandchildren Mikayla and Tyler. He was also greatly loved by his stepson, Eric and his wife Tiffany, and grandchildren Theodore, Robert, Peyton and Etienne. He is predeceased by his son, John, who he loved very much.
He was also loved by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Frank Frasca.
He grew up in Algiers. As a young man he signed up for paratrooper training without even telling his parents. They didn’t know until they saw in the paper the names of the people graduating paratrooper training.
His father put him on ships from a young age. One time he was in port and a captain recognized him and approached him to help on a merchant marine ship because they were short handed. The captain said he would buy him everything he needed. He agreed to help and his poor mother didn’t know where he was for a month. He forgot to tell his family and couldn’t call until they docked at the next port.
He was a member of the French Navy and was trained as a pilot in Pensacola, Florida. He had French wings and U.S. wings. He also held a card to take off or land in any conditions.
He was an amazing man with many talents. He loved to cook and people raved about his onion soup and chicken and olives. He was also a very talented painter. He loved painting his own versions of Picasso and other famous artists.
He was a brilliant businessman who was CEO and Chairman of the Board of six trucking companies including St. Johnsbury, Milne, Jones, Standard and Carrier Systems.
After retiring from Sun Company he ran an inn in Cape May, New Jersey for 20 years called The Winship. He also owned a restaurant in Wildwood, New Jersey called LeBistro.
Twenty years ago we retired to Florida and he enjoyed our life here. God only made one Robert Franzoni and he will be loved and missed forever.
