Pauline M Cartier, age 99, of Largo, Florida passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at her home with her loving family by her side and was reunited with our lord. Pauline was born on July 8, 1924 in Lawrence, MA to Roch Probost and Marie Willandri Probost. She is survived by her children, Thomas P. Cartier of Sevierville, TN, Anne M Cartier of Palm Bay, FL, and Susan Cartier Moreau of Vassalboro, Maine, grandchildren, Barbara Burgess, David Hubbard, Sarah Hubbard, Lee Moreau, Erin Hutton, and Gregory Cartier, great-grandchildren, Katherine Belle Burgess, Emma S. Hutton, Quinlan Alphonse Vugts, Lucas Bugts, Luka Moreau, Forest Hutton, and Evelyn Hubbard. Pauline is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Alphonse Cartier.
When Pauline was five years old, the family moved to Burlington, Vermont. She attended schools there and met her future husband, Al, in the 3rd grade. They became friends and high school sweethearts. Both graduated in 1942.
World War II had started and Al enlisted in the Army in January of 1943. The couple became engaged at Christmas time of 1942. Al returned to Vermont in July of 1943 and they were married. Pauline followed him as his new, young bride to Bradenton, Florida where they were together until he was sent overseas in March,1944. While in Florida, Pauline did volunteer work for the American Red Cross.
During the war years, Pauline kept herself busy doing secretarial work for the American Woolen Company, which made blankets, etc. as part of the war effort. Al was in the Pacific War Zone for almost two years.
Pauline had their firstborn child, Thomas Paul, while Al was in the jungles of New Guinea. He returned home November of 1945 and finally met his son, Tom who was 14 months old. They settled down to a wonderful marriage.
Pauline loved to dance and travel. She loved working on her computer and writing small articles about their travels. They had visited all 50 states and quite a few countries in Europe. Pauline loved to garden as well and was the best homemaker. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren as much as possible.
Pauline belonged to the St. Brendan's Council of Catholic Women, Red Hat Society, and several other organizations throughout the years.
There will be a funeral mass held for Pauline at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 19, 2024 at St. Brendan's Catholic Church.
At Pauline's specific wishes, there will be no viewing or visiting hours. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Brendan's Church or the Suncoast Hospice.
