Joseph Gilbert Haines Sr.

Joseph G. Haines Sr., passed away on May 24, 2021 at the age of 92. He was born and raised in NY, NY. He was a 30 year veteran in the Military Service, including the Marine Corp. for 9 years as a Sargent Major and the Army National Guard, Ohio, from which he retired in 1989 as a Command Sergeant Major. He was also a Lieutenant with the Toledo, OH Police Department from which he retired after 25 years of service in 1981. Once he moved from Ohio to Safety Harbor, FL he volunteered with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department for many years.

Joseph is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Janet Sheahan Haines, his mother, Agnes and 3 grandchildren. He leaves behind his current wife, Karola, 6 children, 1 step-daughter, 23 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 1 step granddaughter, and 1 great great grandchild.

He was a member of the Lou Diamond Marine Corp Detachment, Riverview Yacht Club, Toledo, OH Police Post 512, Knights of Columbus, Safety Harbor, FL and numerous other associations, including, Editor of the Briar Creek Monthly Media.

There will be a visitation for Joseph from 4 - 7 pm on Tuesday, June 1 at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater. Funeral Mass will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, June 2 at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, 2405 Philippe Pkwy, Safety Harbor. His final resting place will be in Independence, OH.
