Diana Florence Sawh

Diana Florence Sawh, born on April 19th, 1938, in Whim Village, Guyana, South America, was the loving mother of David, Moti, Savitri, JohnMark, Geeta and Diane, and the wife of the late Rev. Haimdat Sawh. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Harry and Alberta Sukhu. She is loved and missed by her six grandchildren: Rory, Akash, Shalini, Ian, Indira, and Satya Sawh. She is lovingly remembered by her sons- and daughters-in-law Tommy Towns, Jim Cooper, Anita Sawh, and Claudina Claver. She was the sister of the late Herman Sukhu, Errol Sukhu, the late Esther Sukhu, the late Mavis Ajodha, Henry Sukhu, Paula Deebrah, the late Keith Sukhu, and Loraine Sukhu. She was the stepdaughter of Irene Sukhu. Before settling in the United States in 1978 she lived until her early adulthood in Guyana and then resided in Jamaica and Trinidad for two and three years, respectively, before returning to Guyana where the older children attended and finished high school. Upon moving to the US she lived in the Bronx, NY for a year before moving to Clearwater, FL. There she trained and began her career as a certified nurse’s aide while also being a devoted wife and mother to her husband and seven children. The family relocated to Tallahassee, FL in 1988. Diana returned to her original home in Clearwater after the death of her husband in 1998, where she lived close to several of her children until her death. Diana was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia and pancreatic cancer in early 2017 and to which she succumbed on December 20, 2017. She derived joy from her love of gardening and particularly delighted in flowering plants. She kept a garden of Guyanese wiri wiri peppers whose prominent place in her wonderful cooking maintained a connection to Guyana that her family enjoys and continues to this day. Family was the axis of Diana’s world. She was tirelessly and fiercely devoted to the welfare of her children. Her care, guidance and determination ensured that they had opportunities far beyond her own. The results of her efforts can be seen in the quality of life enjoyed by multiple generations of the Sawh family. Diana will be interred next to her beloved husband, Haimdat Sawh, in Tallahassee, FL at Southside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers et al, the family is requesting that any donations in remembrance of Diana be made to Suncoast Hospice of Pinellas County at 5771 Roosevelt Blvd. Clearwater, FL 33760.
