Daniel Guy “D. Guy” McMullen, 102, of Clearwater, born Feb 13, 1908 went to be with Mar Mar August 5, 2010. Born in the family home, located near Safety Harbor to George Ward & Jessie Watson McMullen. Guy, as he was known to his older friends or “pap”, Paw-Paw or Mister “Mac” to the younger group. He attended Safety Harbor Elementary and Middle – then on to Clearwater High School, where he participated in all sports, graduating in 1928. He attended The University of Florida as a walk-on football player. He was a Gator.
The depression in 1929, along with the lack of finances, he came home to find employment. He had met Laura Morris of Marietta, GA during the previous summer and they were married Aug. 31, 1930.
Guy worked the next 2 years for the State of Florida and the B & B Super Market. He was offered a commission Gasoline station at Five Points in down town Clearwater, he and Laura took the opportunity given to them by the Standard Oil Company and thus stared their careers in the oil business that would span 78 years.
Guy and Laura would have 4 children, Daniel (Dan) G (Maribeth). Jr, Paul (Janet), Linda (Ivan)Davidson & Laura (Ted) Weikel. Dan passed in 2006. Linda and Laura were the first set of twins born at Morton Plant Hospital.
After four years at Five Points Standard Station he was rewarded with a commission agency to supply the commercial trade in central Pinellas County.
With his sales ability and Laura’s bookkeeping skills, their efforts led them to be Standard Oil – now known as Chevron; One of the best distributors in the southeast. During his lifetime he had many business interest ventures and projects. He purchased property and built service stations, supplied agriculture ventures in the county.
He purchased the property he and Laura called “Heaven Acres” (now Wall Springs Park). McMullen – Booth Elementary School was another of his contributions to our county.
Guy was past president of Lion’s Club of Clearwater; Lifetime member of First United Methodist Church Clearwater; and a supporter of local sports programs.
He was a person who assisted and took care of his family and friends. He always had a pleasant word for those who were in need of support.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed family fish fry’s and attending the McMullen Family reunion every July 4th; that started in 1925.
He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Brett (Karen) McMullen; Paul, Jr ( Tanya) McMullen; Kent (Kathy) Davidson; 5 great-grandchildren, Maverick, Shelby, and Austin McMullen; Lauren “Dani” Davidson; Sara Preston Davidson. Two sisters; Mary Shaw and Sharon (Gene) Sanborn. And all of the extended McMullen family.
Guy lived by a simple code: Take care of your family, look after your friends, keep Jesus in your heart, that’s where it all begins.

Visitation will be Wed at the funeral home, 693 S. Belcher Rd, Clearwater, 6PM-8PM, and the Memorial Service Thursday, 11AM at First United Methodist of Clearwater, 411 Turner St, Clearwater.
