Betty Ann Smay

Born on April 3, 1935 in Shamokin, PA she was the daughter of Robert Wesley and Ruth (Clouser) Deitrich.

On August 30, 1952 she wed Willard Clair ‘Bud’ Smay, Jr. Together they raised three children who survive, Vickie Wallace and her husband, Steve of Pittsburgh, PA, Gary Smay and his wife, Darla of Clearfield, Robert Smay of Clearfield, along with nine grandchildren, Angela Hurley, April Petro, Tira Card, Kurt Smay and his wife, Magdalena, Timothy Smay and his wife, Cristi, Daniel Smay and his wife, Brooke, Robert Smay, Jr. and his wife Trish, Lori Smay, Michael Smay and his wife, Shannon; 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Betty is also survived by one brother and two sisters, Robert Chester Deitrich of Hepburnia, PA, June Varnum and her husband, Jerry of Lithia, FL, Joyce Maloney and her husband, T.J. of Wyoming, PA; two sister-in-laws, Patricia ‘Aunt Pat’ Deitrich and Carolyn Flanagan, Betty’s best friend; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Jim Deitrich, grandson, Kenneth C. Smay, sister-in-law, Joan Deitrich, and grandson-in-law, Aaron Card.

Betty was a Christian by faith.

She graduated from Curwensville Area High School.

Some will remember Betty when she was working for Servomation Refreshments at Clearfield Cheese of Curwensville.

Betty was a homemaker for most of her life and loved trying new recipes, such as her famous chocolate cake which included a secret ingredient! She also enjoyed reading books and trading them with her daughter-in-law, Darla and creating flower gardens.

Friends will be received at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, Inc., 312 E Locust St., Clearfield, PA on Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rick Butler officiating. Interment will be in the Historic Crown Crest Cemetery, Clearfield.
