William Thomas Lockhart, 74 of Clayton passed into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 20th after a brief time at the Hospice House of Smithfield. Family surrounded Tom as he peacefully went to his final resting place. Tom was the son of Frances and Olan Lockhart of Whitwell Tennessee. He is survived by his siblings, brother Ronnie Lockhart of Rock Island Tennessee and sister Roweena Sneed of Dayton Tennessee. His wife Meredith P Lockhart of Garner, NC, preceded him in death; they were married in August of 1967. Surviving are children, Karen L Radford and husband Tony of Clayton, NC, Chris Lockhart and wife Susan of McDonough, GA and Don Lockhart and wife Alison of New Port Richey, FL. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Tyler (24) and Bradley (11) Radford, Hayden (15) and Mary Jane (11) Lockhart and Thomas (10) Lockhart. Tom is a US Navy Veteran and served in the Wake County community as a law enforcement officer from the late 1960s until 1973. He served the Garner Police Dept., NC State Highway Patrol and the State Bureau of Investigation. He left law enforcement to begin a career in management and later went on to a successful career in sales. He resided in New Port Richey FL from 1989 until he became ill in June 2014. He was a member of the Church of Christ since he was a young boy in Whitwell, TN. Tom was a loving man with a generous heart. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family plans to honor his life at a private ceremony in his hometown in Tennessee.
