I met Stephen while he was with Clayton FD and I was with CPD. He always greeted me with a smile and was the sweetest man. He had a calm about him that would dominate stressful situations, which is often needed in emergency services. He was clearly a man of God and absolutely adored his family.  My heart hurts for his family and the fact this world lost an absolutely awesome man.  I am confident he is watching over all of you and my family prays for strength for you during this difficult time. ❤️

I will always remember his smile. Stephen and I worked together at Wake Med Critical Care Transport. His love for the lord, wife and family in general is what I have admired about him. When he worked the Pediatric truck I loved it because we would sit and just talk until he gets a call. He hardly complained and was always willing to help out when needed.

It is a difficult thing to actually "walk your talk."  Stephen was the epitome of doing just that. Stephen humbly lived his faith in his words and his actions. We worked at WakeMed at the same time: Stephen with Mobile Critical Care and me with Police and Public Safety. Every single time that he saw me, regardless of what I was doing, he would quietly wait until I completed my duty or conversation and then he would give me a hug and tell me he and Amy loved me. That simple action never failed to touch me...and at times brought tears to my eyes. I believe that he genuinely lived the "Love One Another....no exceptions." Godspeed, Stephen.

To All the family and friends of Stephen.  I never got to know Stephen in person as I have lived out of NC for many years now.  However, through the lovely memories you have shared of Stephen, I can see his love of his family and friends and our Lord.  What a testimony he has lived.  My heart hurts for all that are missing him and for the void that he leaves behind.  I have learned that no matter the distance - Love prevails.   My heart goes to all that have lost so

Stephen was a great guys only got to work a few years at wakemed with him he was a carrying and a great coworker to work with always willing help me out god speed my friend may God bless you and watch and care over your family 

Stephen was one of my very favorites when I worked at Wake Mobile. He was always so sweet, kind, and funny, and I knew I would have a good day if we were working on the truck together. When coworkers would kid around with him, I would threaten, "Leave him alone! He is an angel sent from heaven!" I am so sorry about this tremendous loss for your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Stephen through the EMS family  I  meet him when he was on  Clayton EMS when my father was on the Board at Clayton .  He was the nicest person I knew,  he always made me feel like part of the EMS family  . He will be missed by many.   

Amy, Kaci, and Cole - just wanted to say my thoughts and prayers have been with you all. Stephen was probably one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. You knew after just a few moments his love for his family, and for our God. I’ll never forget our time at CFD together, being on the honor guard- and the trip we took with the other guys to NYC. It was a non-Stop 24+ Hours but glad I got to share that experience with Stephen. Im sharing a pic of Stephen on the fire boat for FDNY from that trip. 

My favorite memory of Stephen is when he and Amy were dating.  He always looked at her like she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.  Of course,  he continued loving her and then their beautiful children.   Stephen always had a smile on his face!  He was a friendly, caring,  hard working, Christian man.  Heaven's gain is our loss.

I did not know Stephen but I wanted to share my concern for his family and parents. I am friends with Huck and Phoebe Smith. I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are been sent for all the family. God bless all of you. 

I thank God for Stephen’s life, and that it will continue to speak, because of his faith.  I thank God for parents that raised him to love the Lord not just in word, but in a consistent demeanor of kindness, consideration, and service.  I thank God for Stephen’s sister and other family members who all are such a part of the man he became.  I thank God for giving Stephen a cherished wife with whom to walk the winding path of life, for blessing them with a son and a daughter, and that Stephen knew the weighty joys of fatherhood.  

Stephen was a true friend.  He was genuinely caring and approachable.  He liked to laugh, but I cannot recall him ever doing so at another’s expense.  He had a heart for people.  Stephen also had a heart for spiritual things, even as a young man.  In the Fall of 1997 when we were at Bible College together, Stephen, Will Hall and I gathered regularly in a dorm room to pray.  I recall the fervency and emotion with which he lifted up friends and family back home.  

I wish I could have seen Stephen more often in our adult years, but each time we were able to visit, he was eager to share his heart and give encouragement.  I never left those conversations without feeling appreciated, supported, and reminded to look to the things that matter most.  What more could one want from a true friend?

I have a very fond memory of going to Disney with Amy, Stephen, and Amber. Stephen agreed to ride the sling shot with me and to this day I have NEVER done it again! It was so scary! I remember Stephen having such a great sense of humor and making all of us laugh the entire trip! 

Our thoughts and prayers are with Stephen‘s family!  Definitely was special to my Dad & Mom (Mr. & Mrs. Talton) who are greeting him in heaven!!  Do remember seeing his smile and knowing of his testimony thru them!!  Thankful we will see them all again one day!!  Love in Christ!!

It's been a long time since seeing any of the Smith family, however, I have very fond memories from years back when you would visit Trenton Missionary Baptist Church with our beloved Mr Dalton Jones and Mrs Corrine. Just wanted to express my sincerest condolences to Roger, Doris Fay, Lynn and the extended family (Brant, Mr T and Mrs. Lois). 

It is with profound heart felt sympathies to the family of Stephen.  Stephen was a kind hearted and good person.  I never saw Stephen when he didn’t have that infectious smile and a hug.  He was always very professional and very friendly.  I watched him grow up in EMS and with the Fire Department and he was very proud of his accomplishments.  Rest easy Stephen, your work on earth is done.  You will be missed and remembered by all that you touched in some way either big or small.  Prayers for the family and strength to get through this terrible time.  

Stephen, when we worked on the pediatric truck at Mobile your gentle spirit beamed as a beacon of hope to distressed parents and terrified children. You smiled with God’s love that calmed scared parents. You worked endlessly as part of the crew on critically ill babies. You  cared for each child and parent as your own family. I remember the day you excitedly announced you were going to be a daddy yourself. You had the biggest grin ever! You truly humbly represented our Lord and Savior every day at work. I know Jesus welcomed you home with a hug and told you “welcome home good and faithful servant” You will be missed by many. 

To Stephen's family I was terribly saddened to hear of his passing..  I have some fond memories when we were younger hanging out together and playing.. Stephen was a Wonderful person who cared deeply for others.   My the Lord bring you all peace and comfort during this difficult time..  Stephen had his faith in Christ alone and for that I have JOY.. 

I will never forget when the Smith family came to Garner FWB Church.  Stephen was such a cutie - that red hair and mischievous smile, running around with all the little guys after church.  I watched him grow up into a wonderful young man and we worked together at the Mobile.  When he first arrived, I told him that he didn't need to call me Ma'am; he replied "Yes, Ma'am" and that was that.  He was so excited when he started dating Amy... he was beaming when he told me that he had proposed...and, of course, she said "Yes"!  Stephen was a wonderful person and he will be greatly missed; thankfully, we will see him again!   Amy, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Lynn & Wayne, I know God will carry you through this difficult time.  Please know that you are loved and we are praying for you all.

Stephen was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.  He and I met several years ago at an EMS conference and hit it off from the start.  I am extremely comforted to know that he knew the Lord and was secure in where he would spent eternity.  I could always depend on him for a smile and laughter no matter what was going on.  He was a very special man and friend.  God bless you all!

Dearest Steven, there are no words. I will always remember how you cared for and looked after all of us and the first time you called me Ma’am. I am heartbroken to hear of your passing. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and those of us who loved you at the Mobile.

I am so Sorry to hear about Stephen's passing. I fill Blessed to have been able run EMS with such a GOOD RESPECTABLE  young man. I remember when  Hurricane Fran came; Stephen, myself & Misty were stuck out in the Cleveland area all night & that is a night I will never forget. He was a member of our CREMS Family. GOD BLESS his Family.

Steven I remember our times at the mobile and the blessing you always was at the job.  I’m so saddened to hear about your passing.  I know you are going to be celebrating on the streets of gold with our father and savior Jesus Christ.  May God just hold your family close at this time.  Take care brother you will be missed.
