To Roger: The world needs more people like you. It is unfortunate that you were snatched away, but maybe it was for a reason unknown to us. Compassion is so much stronger than hate. You had no interest in material things. You genuinely cared! You cared about human suffering; in fact, you cared about all living creatures. Others have spoken of your intelligence. Your intelligence, demonstrated by a score of 35 out 36 on the ACT, is indicative of what you could have potentially accomplished academically in this world. If there is a greater power in this world (and I believe there is), I'm damn happy that they have Roger Barber on their side.

I'll never forget you buddy. You and your sister always brightened up my days back in school. Go in peace and rest easy.

Having only met you as a young boy, I can only imagine the quality of young man that you've grown into. 
 Your parents are some of the best  and I cannot imagine  their pain.. 
You can rest knowing that their families will be there for them as well as your sisters..

I've known Roger since we  both were in 4th grade. I met him at a summer camp where I noticed him playing with some Yugioh cards. From that day we just kept hanging out at camp and eventually started going to each other's houses. He also introduced me to many life long friends who I still talk to today! We'd stay up all night playing games and watching funny shows. Those days were the best. I've watched him grow up so much and now it doesn't even feel real. He was always like a brother and he will be greatly missed by me. I want to take this to give my condolences to his family and all our friends who have been with him up until the very end. You may be gone but the memories we created will never fade. Miss you buddy.

As an older cousin, I didn't get to spend much time with Roger with the exception of Barber family reunions and holidays spent at Grandma Gail and Grandpa Floyd's house. I didn't pay much attention as a teenager to him or his sisters as I was much more interested in following around his mom (who is the coolest Aunt ever, btw). 
As I grew older and settled into my place in the adult world I began to talking to Roger at these gatherings and was amazed at how good natured and outgoing this seemingly quiet kid was. Well, not really a kid.. he'd become a teenager and a really interesting one at that. 
Roger would talk away about his interests and hobbies with a self-assurance rarely seen in adults and without an ounce of the usual arrogance found in someone so intelligent. It was easy to see his confidence grew from the nurturing, loving, and accepting environment his parents raised him and his little sisters in. 
Part of me believes that the love and gentleness that poured from his heart is what made his hair so beautiful. And yeah, I may have threatened to steal it off his head once or twice but he humored me and maybe even appreciated the crazy lady saying it.

Roger will be in my heart forever; it takes quite a person to make that kind of impact from so many scattered conversations. He didn't get enough time on this earth to spread the kindness it needs so desperately, and that is unfair, but the impact he made while here was more than many make in an average lifespan. 

To Craig, Shannon, Molly and Bella - thank you for sharing him with the world. I love you all very, very much.

I grew up with Roger in my elementary, middle, and high school life. It wasn't until around high school that we were in classes together, specifically drafting class, where I was in his group. 

He looked at things in angles that nobody else did, and you could tell he saw the world in a unique way none of us could see. I am afraid I lost out on a truely amazing friend during my earlier years in school. 

God gained a real one. 

Rest well Roger. 

I had the pleasure of teaching Roger in Kindergarten. I fondly remember him as a happy, loving little boy! He enjoyed school and loved building things:)
