Robert Leslie Scott

Bob was born and spent most of his childhood in Sumter, SC. He graduated high school in 1944 when he left to go work in a shipyard, then soon after joined the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged on March 11, 1947 when Nazi Germany surrendered. After his discharge he attended Embry Riddle Aviation School where he earned his private pilot and A&P licenses and was hired by Glenn L. Martin as a technical representative for the B-57. During that time he traveled to Japan and Pakistan to train crewmen and pilots in getting acquainted with the new bombers. In 1952 he met and married Barbara Tarr and settled in Baltimore where they raised four children. Bob retired from Maryland General Hospital as Chief Engineer of Maintenance in 1992 after 25 years. He always kept his passion for aviation part of his life, becoming a member of the EAA in Essex, Maryland, and Smithfiled, NC after he relocated there in 2002. He actively designed, built or refurbished planes most of his life.

Bob, known by many as “Pop”, has left an everlasting love of aviation, travel, and family on everyone he met. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Ivey and husband Brian of Garner, NC and Delores Nieberlein of Middle River, MD, as well as 10 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Tarr in 1992, son Jeffrey in 2013, and son John in 2021.
