A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at 2:00pm at Johnston Community Church, 450 Janie Road, Selma, North Carolina with Reverend Brandon Edwards officiating, and others will be sharing memories. Ralph was born January 18, 1960 in Verdon, France to the late Allen L Layton and the late Betty L. Layton.
Ralph was raised in Chapel Hill and had lived in Lizard Lick, Garner, Selma and Clayton. He worked as a plumber for over 35 years. Ralph’s greatest achievement was giving his life to God. Through many health problems, he never let go of his faith in God. He enjoyed cars, trucks, gardening online games, BBQ grilling, serving at a food pantry, attending church and Bible Study. Ralph always had a hunger to help the homeless and the hungry. He loved his family and the people he met. There was never a child that didn’t love “Pops”.
He is survived by his wife, Mary “Chrissy” Layton, whom he married on March 12, 2006 in Selma; children, Randall and Darla Orr, Allan and Kristen Layton, Christopher Layton, Gary and Lisa Layton, Thomas “T.C.” and Ashley Barbour, and Sidnie and Josh Garner; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Michael A. Layton; sister, Donna Layton Salas; 11 nieces; 7 nephews; 18 great nieces; 10 great nephews; 2 cousins; 6 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law who loved him dearly.
