Lenora Faylene Bradley Robertson was born on May 11, 1944, to the late Ernest James Bradley, Sr., and Thelma A. Bennett, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The fourth of eight children, Lenora lived a full and vibrant life for 80 years. She departed this earthly life and journeyed to Heaven on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
Lenora was educated in the Atlantic City Public School system and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1962. She began her professional career as a secretary at Atlantic City Hospital and subsequently dedicated herself to serving the community as a customer service representative with the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company. Her commitment and hard work left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
In 1965, Lenora married the late Albert Robertson, a union that produced their two children, Je’Nise Jelina Robertson (Goss) and Albert Dureya Robertson, Jr. In 1977, Lenora and her two children relocated to New York City, where she continued her career with the New York Telephone Company. Embracing the vibrant spirit of the “Big Apple,” Lenora nurtured her children’s love for the arts, sciences, and the diverse culture that New York City has to offer, which instilled in them a great appreciation for the world around them.
In 1987, Lenora retired from the New York Telephone Company and returned to live in Atlantic City, New Jersey to spend quality time with her parents, family, and friends. She later met Johnny Andrews, a notable and accomplished jazz musician in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Lenora had a deep love for music and was a devoted supporter of Johnny Andrews, often coordinating his jazz engagements, band rehearsals, and events. Her enthusiasm for the musical arts brought joy to her life and those around her.
Later in her career, Lenora took on the role of manager at the Superior Tractor Trailer School, where she was cherished by both employees and students. Her dedication and leadership made a lasting impression. She remained with Superior Tractor Trailer School until her well-deserved retirement. Her warmth and commitment were greatly appreciated by all who had the privilege of working with her.
Lenora loved her family. She enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, cookouts, and events. She enjoyed playing cards, joking with her family, and enjoying life. Lenora’s famous “fish fry” gatherings were the highlight of her family’s life. She loved frying fish, preparing the cole slaw and all the “fixins,” while sitting around the table playing endless games of pinochle, spades, and bid whist. Lenora also enjoyed spending time with friends at local gatherings and music events in New York, Philadelphia, and Atlantic City.
One thing is for certain, Lenora loved God. She attended St. Monica’s Catholic Church with Johnny Andrews until his passing. Lenora later became a member of Second Baptist Church in Atlantic City, where she attended faithfully with her brother, Deacon Michael Bennett, and sister-in-law, Gina Bennett.
In 2021, Lenora relocated to Garner, North Carolina to spend what would be her final years with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She became a member of Prosper Church, pastored by her daughter and son-in-law, Pastor Je’Nise Goss and Prophet L. Donnell Goss, Sr. She loved serving and supporting her church and loved her church family. She was one of the Mothers of Prosper Church, where she was lovingly referred to as “Mother Lenora” and served faithfully, summarizing the weekly Bible Reading classes, assisting in the preparation of events and conferences, and serving as a greeter during the Sunday Worship Services.
Lenora is predeceased by her parents, Ernest James Bradley, Sr., and Eugene and Thelma A. Bennett; long-time partner, Johnny Andrews; brothers, Gerald McCall, Ernest “Jimmy” Bradley, Darryl Bradley, and Thelbert Bradley.
