“Mama J”, as she is affectionally known, went peacefully to be with The Lord on Monday, August 16, 2021 at age 87. A native of Johnston County, NC and current resident of Wendell, NC. Joyce was the daughter of Herman Daniels and Inez Daniels Sullivan. Joyce is survived by her husband, Wade Eugene Bender (“Papa Gene”), as well as her adoring children and their spouses: Joy Adams Biggerstaff (Ron), Kenny Adams (Vickie), Kim Adams (Rhonda), Jan Poole Gaines (Todd), and Chip Poole (Michelle). She is also survived by brothers Mack Daniels, Randy Daniels, and Keith Daniels and sister Betty Daniels Marshall. Preceding Joyce in death are husbands Dwight Adams and E.C. Poole, Jr., her parents, and siblings Clyde Daniels, Jackie Daniels Hudson, and Ed Daniels. Her surviving grandchildren are: Joshua Powell (Shannon), Kim Adams, Jr. (Suthanya), Chris Adams (Veronica), Cameron Poole (Brooke), Matthew Poole (Brandi), Parker Adams, Jonathan Adams (Caitlin), Adia Gaines, Tessa Gaines, Adriane Gaines and 10 Great-Grandchildren. She is fondly called “Nana” and deeply loved by them all. Joyce (“Mama J”) will always be remembered for her smile, love of music and dancing, horses, and fancy attire, including her many colorful hats and scarves. Family, friends, and especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, have brought her immense joy and pride over the years, and she has never met a stranger. There will always be only one “Mama J”!! Family visitation will be held 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 US 70 Business Hwy. W, Clayton, NC, with a funeral service immediately following at 1:00 pm, also at McLaurin.
Following the funeral, a graveside service and burial will take place at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, 4362 Highway 70 Business, Clayton. Friends and family are also invited to attend a special “Celebration of Life” on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 6:00 pm at Lorraine’s Coffee House, 101 Timber Pointe Lane, Garner, NC. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: Pine Ridge Baptist Church, 874 Pine Ridge Road, Zebulon, NC 27597 or another charity of your choice.
