Dorothy Tomlinson Ellis, age 93, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. She was born in Johnston County on November 2, 1929 to the late Wilton and Mary Tomlinson. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Lyde D. Ellis and sisters, Rosemary Benson and Peggy Deans. Dorothy is survived by her son, Terry Ellis and his wife, Sandy; and a sister, Faye Norris, all of Clayton.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at Bethesda Baptist Church, 4967 US Highway 70 Business West, Clayton, NC with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00pm. An interment will occur at Pinecrest Memorial Park, 12830 US 70 Bus Hwy W, Clayton, NC 27520 after the service.
Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother who gave of her time and resources to serve others. She loved and worked with her church family at Bethesda Baptist Church for most of her adult life. She taught a Sunday School Class for over 50 years, sang in the choir and other areas of ministry within the church family.
She lived a simple life, worked hard on the farm in her early years. She retired from Bayer Pharmaceuticals. Dorothy enjoyed baseball, fishing, gardening and meeting new people. She was a special person who touched many lives over the years.
