Doris Johnson Stokes

Doris Johnson Stokes a resident of Springbrook Nursing Home, passed away May 15th 2023. “Grandma” as she was affectionately known, was born to the late Lassie and Zora Johnson. Doris was one of 13 children.

She owned and operated eight restaurants in her life time with her husband Fred. Doris instilled in her children what hard work was. They carry those memories with them today. She was the wittiest woman they knew.

She is survived by her children, a son, Mike Lewis, a daughter, Sandy Benson and husband Rick; step-son, Lee Stokes; brother and sister Robert Nelson Johnson and Dorothy Popa; grandchildren, Crystal Johnson, Vanessa Locklear, Stacy Twiggs, April Stokes and Scooter Stokes; eight great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Stokes; brothers and sisters Clemon, Thurman, Ben, Wade, Valton, Vernon (Tan) and Woodard Johnson, Lucille Beasley, Ruby Powers and Ruth Mize; grandchildren, Charles Stokes, Mica Love and Brandy Lewis.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, May 20, 2023 at the funeral home, prior to the service.

A special Thank You to Tiffany Peacock at Springbrook for her excellent care. She went above and beyond her duties caring for our mother. Mama always called her Dr. Tiffany – she could fix it all.
