Darrell was born in Bangor, Maine, graduated from Presque Isle High School and the University of Maine with a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering. Early in life his passion for making and flying model airplanes led to lifetime hobby and military career.
He served 4 years in the US Air Force earning the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was employed by the Military and Rockwell International for 29 years.
A second career was in Income Property Acquisition, maintenance, value enhancement and disposition. He founded an educational corporation to provide school districts with closed-circuit TV and educational TV systems. Designed and produced the first mobile TV studio as a training aid for schools. Designed, fabricated and installed the first ETV system in the 19 Pasadena schools.
He developed a business plan to enhance auto parts company profitability. Established a publishing company for the “Classic Thunderbird’ magazine.
He is survived by his sister, Virginia Nelson of East Millinocket, Maine, his brother, Terry and Betty Crouse of Palermo, Maine and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Nadeen Crouse of Portland Maine and his sister Mavis Niles also of Portland, Maine.
Committal Services will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon CA. For date and time please contact Reichert’s Funeral Home.
