Magüi was born on March 20, 1933 to Geronimo Vizcarra and Micaela Rivera Ruiz in Choix, Mexico. After Magüi graduated from Sor Inés de Juana in 1950, she studied accounting.
In 1949, Magüi met Guillermo “Memo” Madrigal in Los Mochis, Mexico. Magüi and Memo went on to have three sons: Luis Guillermo Madrigal, David Antonio Madrigal, and Juan Andres Madrigal.
In 1961, Memo and Magüi immigrated to the United States. They both worked long hours in difficult jobs to establish a family and a home. Magüi worked in the San Diego laundry pressing Marine Corps uniforms. She then spent17 years with Van de Kamp on the line preparing fish.
Magüi loved to garden. She would spend hours maintaining her garden filled with lush fruits and blooming roses. She was also a wonderful chef and specialized in pastries. Her pecan pie was the talk of the town.
In their retirement, Memo and La Magüi traveled the world. They visited their son, Luis, who was stationed at military bases across the globe. Their longest adventure was a 3 month exploration of Europe.
Magüi was a dog lover and enjoyed nothing more than to curl up in her favorite chair with a furry friend and watch evening telenovelas. She may have an unwritten record for the most viewings of Mar y Mar.
Magüi was predeceased by her husband Memo Madrigal, her sister Maria “Chuy” Vizcarra Flores de Jesús, and her brother Oscar Vizcarra. She is survived by her youngest sister: Norma Vizcarra de Castro; and her three sons: Luis Madrigal and his spouse Susan Madrigal; David Madrigal; and Juan Madrigal and his spouse Donna Madrigal. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and three grand dogs: Margarita Madrigal; Evan Madrigal; Samantha Madrigal; Christopher Madrigal; Sara Madrigal; Raquel Madrigal; Matthew Madrigal; Anthony Madrigal; Rodrique Madrigal Board; Franco; Jairo; and Haku.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM with burial following immediately at Holy Cross Cemetery.
