On June 18th 1979, Rosemary Loya and Arturo Castro became the proud parents of Eric Christopher Castro who was born in Los Angeles, California. Eric was the youngest of three, Yvonne Marie being the eldest and Ivan Gregory the middle child.
Eric was a hard working, fun and loving guy. He was very reliable and a person you could always count on in your time of need. Eric had a wonderful sense of humor and always found a way to bring out the laughter within us all. His heart was like that of a child: warm, open and non-judgmental. These qualities made children instantly appreciate and relate to him. He was that someone special for whom the youth of our family could look up to and depend on.
As a child Eric enjoyed playing with hot wheels, trucks and model cars. Eric was known to be a curious child and often mistaken to be “mischievous”. Even through the mischief, he was a tender and lovable spirit who no one could get enough of. Throughout his childhood, Eric and his older brother Ivan shared everything from power wheels to the attention from their mother Rosemary. Eric could always count on Ivan for a big hug and a shoulder to cry on when he felt sad or down for being “misunderstood.” He knew that no matter what he did right or wrong, Ivan would be there at the bottom of the bunk beds to show him the same unconditional love that Eric showed him. Early on, Eric became very attached to his father Arturo and looked up to him very much. His father contributed greatly to the personality and man that Eric later became. Though they did not always see eye-to-eye, Eric and Arturo were inseparable.
As a young adult Eric enjoyed spending time with friends. He enjoyed off roading and became involved in Baja racing as a sport. Eric formed many close friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was known as the life of the party and as the lovable guy who everyone quickly gravitated to. Eric also enjoyed spending time with his cousins, who without a doubt, contributed to the wonderful person that he was.
One of Eric’s greatest talents was his ability to create something out of nothing. He was known for building beds in the shape of race cars, play grounds that resembled whimsical castles and miniature trucks with powerful engines that his boys loved to ride in. Wonderful, inventive and fascinating objects that only a true craftsman with a brilliant mind could create. Eric was the ultimate handyman who could always find a way to fix things even in the most seemingly impossible situations.
As an adult, one of Eric’s most wonderful blessings was having two loving sons, Christopher age 4 and Richie age 6, who he absolutely loved with all his heart. They were the most important part of his life and spending time with his children meant the world to Eric. Some of his most beloved moments were when Eric took the boys on outings to Balboa Park and Mission Bay for boat riding.
Without a doubt, the biggest force in Eric’s life was his sister Yvonne who he could always count on to help him get through the most troubled of times. Anyone who knew Eric knew of the tight bond which Yvonne and he shared. He held Yvonne in the highest of regards and trusted her in helping him to make incredibly difficult life decisions. His love and respect for her was in a category all of its own. Yvonne was Eric’s rock and Eric hers.
Eric was loved by many people all of whom will not only miss his warm laugh and sense of humor, but also his generosity of time, love and attention.
Eric is survived by his father Arturo Castro age 63, sister Yvonne Marie Castro age 38, brother Ivan Gregory Castro age 35, sons Richie age 6 and Christopher age 4 and by many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
