It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew "Matt" John Zimmer, a beloved father, husband, brother, and friend, and a proud resident of Chowchilla, California. Born on September 13, 1957, to Stephen Zimmer and Hazel Pickering, Matt was a man of remarkable kindness and generosity, always willing to give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need.
Matt was a caring soul who deeply loved his community and had a sweet, genuine, and charismatic heart. He was an instrumental member of the Chowchilla Rotary Club and devoted his time and energy to bettering the community. He grew up with a passion for riding motorcycles and spent 25 dedicated years as an owner of Farnesi’s Steakhouse, where he became a cherished presence to coworkers and patrons alike. Above all, Matt valued his family, who meant everything to him.
He is survived by his loving family: Annette Zimmer (Tuffs), Kimberly Zimmer Smith (Mike, Maya & Evan), Shaun Zimmer (Lorena, Caiden, & Baylen), Kerri Williams (Randall, Tristin, Deklin & Hudsin), and Frances McGraw (Zachary & Emma).
Matt was preceded in death by Hazel Pickering (Zimmer), Stephen Zimmer, Stephen Zimmer Jr., and Marvin Zimmer.
A visitation service will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Palm Memorial Worden Chapel, 140 S 6th Street, Chowchilla, CA 93610.
A Celebration of Life will occur Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Cornerstone Community Church, Chowchilla, California at Cornerstone Community Church, 208 Fig Tree Road in Chowchilla.
Following the service, friends and family are invited to celebrate his memory at The Sand Trap Bar and Grill.
Matt’s love, generosity, and unforgettable spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
