She was born in El Paso, Texas to Encarnacion and Guadalupe Calderon on Feb. 01, 1936.
Laura will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 49 yrs., Roberto Otero, daughters Elvera (Arthur) Orta, Delia Carrillo, Diana Espinosa and son John Gonzales. She was a cherished grandmother to 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
In addition to her immediate family, Laura leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth to her several nieces and nephews, god sons and god daughters, her close friends and relatives from Chowchilla and childhood friends from her hometown of Castroville.
She was preceded in death by parents Encarnacion and Guadalupe Calderon, brothers, Angel, Otilo, Lupe and Raul Calderon, sisters Lucy Cedillo, Elsie Ramirez and Juanita.
Laura had a passion for crocheting and spent countless hours creating beautiful, intricate pieces and was able to learn new patterns as well as share her ideas with her older sisters. Laura also enjoyed art. She loved to draw with charcoal, she also loved painting with watercolors and acrylic paint, she was such a creative person.
Laura came from a very talented, musical family. The Calderon family would spend many afternoons playing instruments and singing old songs and dancing. Laura thought nothing of grabbing her daughters to dance with them, teaching them all different kinds of dance. Jitterbug was her favorite.
Laura’s kind heart, gentle spirit and unwavering love for her family will forever be remembered. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A graveside service for Laura will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 from 11:00 am at the Chowchilla Cemetery, 23359 Road 14 1/2, Chowchilla, CA 93610.
