It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Alves Sousa Jr. age 61, on December 19, 2024, at Doctor’s Hospital in Modesto, California.
John was born on June 4, 1963, in Hanford, California, to John and Fatima Sousa. He was raised on the family’s dairy farm in Chowchilla, where he learned the values of hard work and community that he carried with him throughout his life.
John attended Chowchilla High School, where he was an active member of FFA and participated in sports. As a proud member of the Class of 1982, he formed many lasting friendships that remained a cherished part of his life.
For much of his adult life, John owned and operated The Cattle Connection, a cattle hauling business he built through perseverance. Apart from his work, John was known for his sense of humor and loyalty. He was always ready with a good laugh or a helping hand, including his volunteer work for the SFA, where he gave his time to support the Portuguese association. John looked forward to going to Pismo with his family each summer, often preparing ribs using his "secret recipe" for the marinade.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kristin Carol Sousa, whose love and memory he carried in his heart every day. He is survived by his parents, John and Fatima Sousa; sister, Diane (Mark) Moss; brother, Jim (Melissa) Sousa; niece, Lauren Sousa; nephews, Ryan Moss and Michael Sousa; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and cherished friends.
A Recitation of the Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held for John on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, 9:30 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 213 Orange Ave, Chowchilla, California.
Following the Mass, John will be laid to rest at Chowchilla Cemetery, 23359 Road 14 1/2, Chowchilla, California. A Funeral Reception will be held following the burial.
