Wanda Lee Aschenbrener, age 85 of Covina, Redlands and Brick, NJ, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 25, 2019. She was born to Lonnie and Meta Smith on July 31, 1933. At the age of 2, following the death of her mother, she was adopted by Charles and Ellen Dowland and raised in Beggs, OK. She loved the farm and riding her horse as a young girl, and in high school was an active member of the 4H Club. While attending Oklahoma State College, Stillwater she met the love of her life, James Roman Aschenbrener and on September 11, 1953 they married and were together until his passing in 2015. A devoted, loving wife and mother, they settled in Covina in 1962, where they raised 6 children: James Roman II, Mary Ellen (Alcott-Barcroft), Michael David, Catherine Ann (Toole), Julia Lynn (Jones) and Kristi Jo (Lestick). She had 14 Grandchildren: James III, John, Joseph, Lisa, Matthew, Krista, Trent, Cailee, Amber, Loren, Melissa, Kayla, Joshua and Michael; and 14 Great-Grandchildren: James IV, Dyson, Nicole, Samantha, John II, Forest, Julia, Elizabeth, Aubriannon, Jack, Charles, Thomas, Jack and Keira; and 4 son-in-laws whom she loved dearly: Chris Lestick, Ron Toole, Loren Jones, & Perry Barcroft. Family and friends were Wanda’s passion and pleasure. She was a caring and faithful neighbor and friend, enjoyed playing cards and games and was a founding member of a Pinnacle group for 56 years, which is active to this day. She enjoyed being a part of women’s groups playing Bunco, Phase 10 and Mexican Train as well; and delighted in playing these and other games with family and her many grandchildren. She was a dedicated Auxiliary Member of McKinley Children’s Home for many years.
Wanda was pre-deceased by her loving husband Jim and is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many close friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, sister-in laws Joan, Claudia and Beverly and brother-in-law Dennis, all of whom will miss her dearly.
A viewing ceremony will be held Friday, August 9, 2019 at Del Angel Funeral Home in Chino, CA. A memorial service and celebration of her life at the First Baptist Church of Upland on Saturday, and burial beside her husband will take place at the Riverside National Cemetery on Monday, August 12.
