Nicolas Swartz Medina, age 91, of Jurupa Valley, California passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020. Nicolas was born December 26, 1928 in New Mexico. Nick was a proud veteran of the Army-Air Corps and proud Dodger fan.
Nicolas is survived by his five children Camila, Viola, Nicolas, Natalie, and Gina. Sisters Jenny Nievar, Viola Grijalbra and brother Robert Medina. Nick is also survived by his eight grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren He was loved deeply by all of us and will be dearly missed.
His life was full and filled with adventures. He served as a member of the Army-Air Corps, as an MP in the Philippines, in the WWII era, traveled central California with his brother picking crops, survived a mine cave in in New Mexico, raised livestock and probably experienced other adventures we never knew about.
After the leaving the military he moved to California leaving New Mexico where he was born. In Los Angeles he married and began raising his family where the family made their home prior to
moving to Chino in 1968. Nicolas became involved in Chino politics, was a member of the city planning commission, and ran for mayor once. He spent a few years involved in MAPA and various other community organizations. He had his own air conditioning and refrigeration business in Chino for many years. Ironically, his son Nicolas, son in-laws David and Thomas and grandsons, Nathan and Thomas (TJ) also currently have careers in the air conditioning and refrigeration fields.
Nicolas enjoyed camping in Yosemite, watching the LA Dodgers & LA Rams, making carnitas over an open fire, making tamales during the holidays with New Mexico red chile. The most enjoyable part of his life although was the time he spent with his family.
A visitation for Nicolas will be held Friday, October 23, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Chino, 13002 South Central Ave, Chino, CA. A committal service will occur Monday, October 26, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA.
