Caught in the act of eating enchiladas!  Nick and second cousin, Darlene.  Nick was the cousin of Ruth Swartz, my mother.  Nick's mother, Viola,  was the sister of Ruth's father, George.

Nick loved enchiladas. His favorite food was chili. He loved making the enchilada sauce himself.  Here he is in Mesa, Arizona, at my brother Ron's house, on October 28th, 2017.

My mother (Florence Duran Cervantes) And Nick were cousins. Nick’s life would intersect with ours throughout the years, always a joy when he would visit. I remember him as the keeper of family stories about life in New Mexico. My mother had a soft spot in her heart for Nick. They shared great memories of growing up and the time she spent living with the Medinas in New Mexico when she was a teenager. He was a kind, fun loving, charming man.  Rest in peace, ‘manito !

My grandpas smile and the way he laughed so big and loud at family gatherings will always stay with me. Picturing him at the big carnitas fire in the back yard ♥️ When you asked
Him if he wanted pictures he said... “yes an 8x10” anything smaller was not enough he loved pictures of his family. 

My Bompa! It’s hard to pick just one awesome memory, we had so many. Good and bad. There’s the “big wheel incident”. How about when he almost left me at a gas station in New Mexico, which was also when I got the nickname “Jenn ifers”! But my favorite is when he took one of the hardest times in my life and made it one of the most awesome memories. We went to Washington state to pick up my 3 oldest kids. We flew in and the only car available was a convertible. Unfortunately the kids weren’t there. So being who he is my Bompa says “well I guess it’s you n me”. We drove the Pacific Coast Hwy with the top down all the way to my moms in Marin Co. I learned a lot about him on that drive. Bompa told me stories and recipes the whole way. We even drove through the tree in Northern CA.  He was one of my best friends... forever and always!  Go Dodgers! ♥️

The world has lost one of the good ones.  Nick Medina was first and foremost a family man.  He loved his family and his country.  He understood the value of being of service to others.  This was shown through his years in public office in Chino.  He is still known and respected in these circles.  Nick so loved his country that he "stretched the truth" about his age to enlist in the Army.  Nick led by example as he served his country starting at the age of 17.  He was a military police officer during the Korean War.  He told me the best part of that assignment was the Harley Davidson he got to ride.  He told me if he had it to do again he would have enlisted as a chef.  Once i asked him what he could tell me with all his years of wisdom.  He looked at me and sighed.  He said "don't sweat the small stuff.  it's all small stuff".  Nick always made you smile.  He would look at you with those big all knowing eyes that seemed to always make everything a little bit better. Nick was always there when you needed him.  He was such a genuinely good guy that he was always welcome at family gatherings whether it was his family or not.  Nick was someone that it just was just fun to be around.  Nick loved Yosemite.  He was always the first one up when camping even at 90 years old.  Nick woke the whole campground up singing his silly song but somehow the other campers just smiled and joined him.  That was just the way he was.  He made friends.  He spoke his mind.  He was one of the best men i ever knew.  Nick was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, brother, friend to many and mentor to many more.   Thank you Nick for everything and thank you God for giving him to us for as long as we had him in our lives. It was an honor to know him and he will be missed by all of us.  

Primo, you will be missed. Remembering fun times in NM before coming  to CA.  You helping me cut wood and you almost passed out.  The family get togethers.   You and Martha can watch over us. God be with you.

So many good memories of your Dad helping the kids, enjoying the family events, providing guidance, enjoying life in general, with a quiet faith in The Man Upstairs.  God comfort you all in your loss.
