Born in Rowan County on September 27, 1934, he was the son of the late Matthew Roger Lentz “Doc” and Ruby Lucille Daugherty Lentz.
Tommy graduated from China Grove High School and King Business College. He owned and operated East Coast Trailer in Charlotte, NC. He started East Coast Trailer in 1974 and continued operations until his passing.
He was a member of China Grove First Methodist Church, where he was very active over the years, having served on various committees. He also served as a Trustee, Sunday school teacher, a youth Counselor and was a member of the Methodist Men.
Tommy was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge #283.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening (Sunflowers), NASCAR racing, the Carolina Tarheels and was also a member of the Shriners.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Bragg.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Barbara Rainwater Lentz; son, Larry (Kim) Lentz; daughter, Christine (Dave) Quigley and sister, Myrtle Jean Lentz.
He is further survived by four grandchildren, Erin (Barry) Smith, Kasey (Trevor) Coffey, Alex Lentz and Breanna Lentz; and one great-grandchild, Sutton Smith.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 22, 2024, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM at China Grove First Methodist Church.
The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Will Van Wieren. Private entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park with Masonic Rites conducted.
