Mrs. Evelyn Troutman 96 of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at home. Born on September 11, 1917 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late John and Hattie Reavis. A graduate of Statesville High School, Mrs. Troutman retired as a seamstress from R. W. Norman’s in Salisbury and as a machine operator from Chemetron Fire Systems.
She was a member of the Old Country Baptist Church. During her entire lifetime, Mrs. Troutman was completely dovoted to her family. She especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, and being able to see them grow up and get married. She also enjoyed among other things, cooking an playing putt-putt golf. Her favorite TV past times were “Let’s Make a Deal”, “Price Is Right”, “Wipeout”, “Wheel of Fortune” and also PGA Tour golf, baseball and entertainment wrestling. Always smiling, a great conversationalist, and Matriarch of the family, she will forever be sorely missed.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert McVay Troutman, whom she married November 16, 1940, celebrating almost 69 years of a loving and devoted marriage: brothes, Condy Reavis, Robert Reavis, James “Buck” Reavis, sisters Ethel "Pinky" Setzer, Mamie "Tootsie" Barnhardt, and Ellen and Ruby Reavis who died shortly after birth.
Survivors include their son, Tommy Troutman of Salisbury, their daughter, Judy Troutman Misenheimer of Salisbury, grandchildren Scottie Misenheimer (Magnai) of Salisbury, Candice Teuber (Peter) of New Jersey, Justin Troutman (Ludmila) of Asheville, Michael Troutman (Judy) of Calabash, Misty Crews of Salisbury and great grandchildren Lucas Teuber, Charlotte Troutman, Brandon and Hayleigh Troutman, Hunter and Jordan Billings, Chelsea Cunningham and Lilly Crews.
Also cherished are Pat and Brenda Troutman Abbate, who never cease to inspire us, Matthew Weaver, a long time dear friend of the family, and Brenda Slaughter (Mother of Justin and Michael Troutman).
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 12:00 pm til 1:00 pm. at the Old Country Baptist Church, 627 Faith Road, Salisubury, NC. The service will follow at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Tom Lomax officiating, with burial at Rowan Memorial Park.
