It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Ted Gerela announce his passing, peacefully on July 16 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Professional Athlete. Ted was born on March 12 1944 in Sarrail, Alberta, second youngest of 10 siblings. Ted is survived by his loving wife Trudy, sons Teddy Jr, Christopher and Grandchildren Luke, Theodore and Chrysanthe. As well as brothers Mike, Danny, Metro and Roy and sisters Edith, Pauline and Dianne.
In 1960 Ted was voted top sportsman at Brooks Secondary School in Power River, BC. Ted decided to move Spokane Washington where he began playing football in his junior year. Focusing on his football skills, won him a four year scholarship to Washington State University. During his time at Washington State, Ted was noticed by professional football teams here in Canada. Ted joined the BC Lions in 1967 and established himself as a star player with tying the CFL record of five field goals in one game in his first season.
After he retired from his football career, Ted proceeded a career in the private sector in the folding carton industry over the next 25 years as District Sales Manager for Western Canada. Once Ted, retired in 2008, he continued his time and attention to playing golf and training his beloved German Shepherd Dogs focusing in competing in the working dog class.
