With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Manuel Augusto Pacheco Travassos, who went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 5th, 2024, at the age of 77. Manuel passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his favorite memories, foods, and, most importantly, his beloved family.
Born on December 1, 1946, in Rabo de Peixe, São Miguel, Azores Portugal to Manuel de Sousa Travassos and Rosa de Jesus Pacheco Travassos. In 1964, at the age of 17, he immigrated to Ontario, Canada. There, he met the love of his life, Nicole (Gosselin)Travassos, and together they built a beautiful life, welcoming two daughters before relocating to BC in 1979, where they later welcomed a third daughter.
A skilled butcher by trade, Manuel worked tirelessly to provide for his family. In 1999, he embraced entrepreneurship by purchasing the Sandwich Deli with Nicole in the Chilliwack Mall.
Manuel was a man of deep faith, and his family was the foundation of his life. He will be fondly remembered for the joy he found in his garden—a passion he lovingly passed on to his daughters—his hobby of racing homing pigeons, the cherished annual chourico making, and his enthusiasm for the BC pasttimes of both fishing and cheering on the Vancouver Canucks.
Manuel is predeceased by his parents and is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Nicole; his three loving daughters, Susan Travassos(Marvin), Rosemarie Day(Kevin), and Claudette Krahn(Kerry); and his grandchildren, Savannah(Stephen), Kendall (Dayton), Jessica(Dylan), Nicholas, Emmanuella, and Georgia. He is also survived by his sisters, Maria Laudalina Custodio and Maria Lurdes Oliveira(Joe), as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
A celebration of Manuel’s life will be held on October 23, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the Little White Chapel in Greendale, BC. Manuel will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, faith, and devotion to his family will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Manuel’s name to Ruth & Naomi's Mission in Chilliwack.
