born October 16, 1931, in Galahad, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on September 12, 2022, after a long and fierce argument with Alzheimer’s.
Jean leaves behind her son Gregg (Monica) Vernon, daughters Lori (Greg) Falys and Susan (Rick) Vernon. Six grandchildren; Ryan (Niki) Hoffman, Matthew (Karyn) Vernon, Robert (Sarah) Vernon, Erin Vernon, Jennie (Matt) Falys, and Andrew Falys, three great grandchildren, Avery, Gavin & Astrid Vernon. Siblings Eileen (Terry) Befus, Edward Fox and Len (Janet) Fox.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Glenn Vernon, her daughter Janice Vernon and grandson Steven Hoffman.
Jean was raised in Galahad, Alberta, along with her 10 brothers and sisters. The family moved to Calgary in her teens where she later met and married Glenn Eric Vernon. Jean and Glenn moved to Dawson Creek in the Peace River country in 1957 where they raised their 4 children. After retiring they moved to Chilliwack to be closer to their daughters.
Jean was an intelligent and versatile person, while in Calgary she worked at the Imperial Bank of Commerce in the historic building on 8th Avenue and often talked about how much she enjoyed being an independent working woman in the 1950’s. Once married she managed the company records for her husband’s company, Paragon Iron Works Ltd., volunteered in the community and went back to college in Grand Prairie to obtain her teaching certificate once the youngest of her children was in school full time. Jean also worked for many years at the Dawson Creek Hospital. When in Chilliwack she obtained her real estate licence and enjoyed the busy life of a realtor for many years. Always a hard worker and great volunteer in any community she lived in.
Jean loved to read, learn, and expanded her mind well into her 80s. Jean was a Diamond level Beta Sigma Phi of which she was a member for over 60 years. She spent many happy years with her secret sisters. Once a widow, Jean joined several clubs such as Probus, Red Hat, book clubs and volunteering with Terry Fox Run. Jean enjoyed travelling which included trips to England, France, Spain, Greece, Mexico, Bogota, Colombia, to visit her son, and many trips to visit family in Washington and Alberta.
Jean loved big family dinners with all the fixings and, most important, with all her family and friends around her. Jean spent part of every day talking to one of her sisters or sisters-in-law and keeping in touch with friends.
A very heart felt thank you to the dedicated staff at Agassiz Senior Community for their wonderful care. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
We love you and will miss you always.
