July 3, 1928 – January 26, 2020.
Elizabeth (Betty) Constance Goatcher died peacefully in Chilliwack BC on January 26, 2020 at the age of 91. Betty was born in Worthing, England, on July 3, 1928. She married Jim Goatcher in April 1950. Jim joined the Canadian army in 1953 and, following a brief assignment in Germany, the young family arrived in Canada in late 1955. Military life required frequent relocations to bases in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
Betty will be remembered for her Sunday dinners of either roast beef or turkey and all the traditional English trimmings that came with it. And we all can recall a conversation with her where she liked to point out that she had five sons, not one daughter, and how she so wanted a “little girl” to spoil. Sorry Mom.
Our mother had a number of careers most notable; a telephone operator with the Royal Air Force right at the end of the war, retail sales clerk at Eaton’s store located at Polo Park Winnipeg, and a florists assistant at Capri Flowers in Winnipeg.
Betty and Jim retired to Winnipeg in the early 1980s. They enjoyed many summers with friends and family at Dorothy Lake Trailer Village in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. The couple moved to Victoria in 2008 and Betty spent her final years in Chilliwack.
Betty is survived by her five sons, Richard (Sandy), Rob (Marie), Jim (Lucia), Brad (Suzanne) and Russell (Katey) as well as seven grandchildren, Alex, Stephanie, Erica, Elyse, Nicholas, Sydney, and Sean along with three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in 2010. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local SPCA could be made in Betty`s name.
