I left the Chicago area about 3 decades back and just today found out about Mike's passing. My heart goes out to Irene and all the family. Some of my fondest teenage and early 20's memories were of time spent with Mike and Billy Opfergelt. The later times included getting to spend time with them and their band the Loodeaz.
Mike was one of the most wonderful people I have known. He is missed in many places.

I am so sorry to hear of Michael's passing. I just found out through a group I'm with on Facebook. My family lived next door to the Egans on Latrobe. Michael and my younger brother Tommy were great friends growing up. Tommy passed away in 97.  The last time I saw Michael was at Tommy's funeral. I have fond memories of the Egans growing up. We where a tight group on that block..
Memory: I remember when Michael and Tommy were little. They would take a string and attach a paper cup to either end of it and talk between the houses. Silly kids they would stay up late into the night talking. I think of the Egans often.

Sincere condolences to Irene Egan and the rest of the family. I am saddened and shocked by the sudden loss of Mike. I met Mike when I moved to Chicago in 1971 and we became best friends. 47 years of fun and great conversations and musical adventures. What a time we had! He will be greatly missed. 

I knew Mike from all the way back to our Prosser days. Dave Stapleton and I met Mike in our freshman year. The 2 of them bonded and formed the Loodeaz. I used to check them out at the Fulton studio. I filmed them doing one of their songs. I remember Mike being inquisitive about all the equipment and their functions. Having spent many years in and around various aspects of the Chicago music scene, I can say unequivocally Mike was the greatest unknown guitar player I've ever heard. Sadly, the rest of the world will no longer get a chance to hear what Mike's friends and loved ones have always known.

You were always a positive ray of light whenever we worked together. I’m very sorry to hear of your passing.

I still can’t believe Mike is gone.  Irene, I was so very shocked when I heard about his passing and am so terribly sorry for your loss.  When I think of Mike, I see him happy and smiling and that’s the way I’ll always remember him.  
I don’t know many people I could so easily talk to about Metallica, but Mike was definitely one of them.  He had some great rock stories to tell.  I’m sure he’ll be entertaining the heavens for all time. 
I don’t think there’s been a day I’m with Jason that Uncle Mike’s name doesn’t come up. Whether it be a story about a convention they were at, anime, games, something music related or just spending time together.   Jason loves his Uncle Mike and will miss him more than I can say.  There was a real bond there.   
Mike will live on in our hearts always.  He’s left his mark for sure.  We are all better people for just having known him.

I am the newphew  of Ric Addy,  my folks ran the Book Box from 66-86, Mike knew me at a very young age 1O years  old, maybe he was always very very kind to me the handful of times we saw each other, He called me on my Birthday last septemebr out of the blue  because Ric was talking to Mike about it it was a great conversation, after all these years gone by. I am so sorry for this loss, I am truly heart broken, for Mike’s family and Ric as well.

I am so very heartbroken, but I am thrilled to have known Mike. We worked together, and as a fellow musician myself, we had great conversations about music, artists, guitars and  life. I will truly miss Mike, I loved listening to his stories and hearing his take on music before my time. Mike made me feel important to him, everyday he would always greet me with a smile and ask how I was doing. He would ask about my trips to visit family, because he knew how important family is. It meant a lot to me to work with him, I deeply appreciated his humor, and his company. I will miss him and never forget Mike. My deepest condolences go out to Mike’s family, may you be at peace with his passing.

My heart is broken at the loss of Mike, shocked and saddened beyond words.  Irene and Mike adopted our precious foster girls, Laura and Heidi, and rarely in life have I met a family so openly and honestly full of love, friendship and joy. Ah, Mike, the world will be a much sadder place without you. 
I worked with Mike for 8 years at WEA, and those were the happiest times. We always had fun, because Mike could find fun in just about any situation. He was kind and wise and humane ... A wonderful mentor and friend.  I have such fond memories of his gentle encouragement of my feeble singing attempts when the WEA band would get together for parties.
You will be missed, Friend... I hope you realized how many lives you touched ....

Stunned and saddened.  No words.  Just found out and I am out of town.  So very, very sorry. Mike is a kind soul and creative musician, but even more just a great man. So sorry.

Mike was the heart of our group at Manga. He was my teacher, honorary favorite uncle, boss, Dad (at times), and above all, GREAT FRIEND – all of this rolled into one lovable package.  He validated our gifts and so generously shared his own. We are all better people because we knew him and I will miss him dearly. 
Irene and family, may you be surrounded with love and may we all rock to the beat of Mike's incredible essence till we see him again.
