My prayers go out to the Mendoza family Manny worked with me at Navy Pier security for several years. He was the most energetic and reliable member of the security team. He could be counted on to always do the right thing. His Marine Corps and Chicago Police training and experience made him to be a valuable asset. His outgoing attitude and smiling face made it a pleasure to work with him on the Department and the Pier.

You were a trusted colleague and good friend.  I miss our phone calls.  Peace to you and your family.

Deepest condolences to the Mendoza family for your loss. I was one of many, many people who worked with Manny, and greatly enjoyed every minute of it. After his military service, after his law enforcement service, he continued to make his community safer by utilizing all that experience as a trainer and educator. That's where I got to interact with him - and he was really in his element, telling stories and interacting on a personal level with students. He stepped up to serve again and again during his time here, and we sincerely thank the Mendoza family for sharing him with the rest of us for just a little while.

We are deeply sorry for your loss. Manny was a great man. I could tell how much he loved his family. I have many fond memories of him at EPE with Brianna, Brian and Mya. I always liked talking with him at dismissal about politics, the Marine Corp  and his love for his family. When my dad passed he brought me many USMC decals to give to my family. Manny will be missed. All my support for you during this hard time and prayers for strength.

Sadly I have lost another Marine Corps Brother due to illness. I met Manny at Fort Bragg while attending a school. 

Manny was a really funny guy. We made each other laugh which also brought down wrath from higher ups who were too serious for life.  I’ll remember him always.  He was a devoted husband,  father, Marine, and Chicago Police Officer. He had a passion for and was an avid collector of Hot Wheels cars Anytime I saw Hot Wheels, I always thought of him and if I saw a unique one I’d take a pic and send it to him. 
Fair Winds and Following Seas my Brother.  Until we meet again in Valhalla.

We were friends, partners, and you had such an impact on my life.   From working in the 19th district, Navy Pier and all those fests... Seemed like all we did was work.  I always enjoyed the times we would get together for lunch or dinner... we were always laughing.

All I can say is that Manny was more than a Marine and a Chicago Police Officer. He was my brother 3 times. We worked together in all 3 places. I will miss him greatly. I will send a video of our Marine unit and photos shortly. I thank you all for sharing him in my life. We love you Manny.


I will miss seeing Manny as we walked to our cars or were in the backyard. I always felt safe knowing that Manny was my neighbor. He was always kind and happy, even when we were outside shoveling feet of snow.  Sending my love to the family.

One of the Finest Men I have ever met. We met collecting Hot Wheels, but we we're Brothers in Blue. Manny was the kind of guy that I wish, as a Police Officer, I could have worked for and with. Everything was about Respect and Honor. A True Hero and American. A true Family man. I Pray for your Family.
