It’s with great sadness that we are sharing that our beautiful Lindsay Miller Gavin, 41, has passed away after her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Lindsay transitioned on the evening of Monday, August 28, 2023 in Chicago, IL surrounded by her loving family. Lindsay’s bright light and big heart left us far too soon, but we will always remember the warmth, love, and generosity that she showered her family and friends with daily.
Lindsay was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan on July 17, 1982 to George (Bill) Miller and Katherine (Kay) Miller, and Lindsay was soon joined by her loving sister Meghan. While growing up in Franklin, Michigan, Lindsay developed a deep appreciation for lake life, serving others, and the value of her friendships. Lindsay made friends organically, and it was in grade school that she developed an everlasting bond with her friend Mary Grace Donahue which continued throughout Lindsay’s life. Forming meaningful relationships was a common theme in Lindsay’s life, and it was Lindsay’s loving and thoughtful personality that drew people to her, and which helped Lindsay develop a network of friends throughout Michigan, and stretched to Chicago, to Atlanta, and locations far and wide.
During Lindsay’s childhood growing up in Michigan, she met one of the first true loves of her life, Northern Michigan. Lindsay counted the days until the yearly trips to Lake Charlevoix, and there was no place that she would rather be. Later in life, and after having children of her own, Lindsay continued with the tradition by sharing the happiness she felt there by taking her husband Brian and children Addison and Olivia to her favorite place on earth.
Lindsay had a calling to serve, and after graduating from Western Michigan University, Lindsay moved to Chicago, IL where she began working as a Registered Nurse at Children’s Memorial Hospital. Helping children as a pediatric nurse was one of Lindsay’s passions, and it was at Children’s Memorial where Lindsay thrived in her role of caring for children on a transplant floor. Children’s Memorial was also the location of where Lindsay continued to cultivate new meaningful relationships. Lindsay had a way of empathizing with people and becoming their most trusted confidant, and their best friend. Lindsay being friends with so many people brought everyone together, and it made her work family as important as her traditional family. Lindsay always had your back and she was never going to back down until she was able to help you out. Lindsay was the definition of a true friend.
In 2012, Lindsay met her future husband Brian Gavin, and in 2014 they married in Chicago, IL. Lindsay and Brian were later blessed with two beautiful daughters, Addison and Olivia who became Lindsay’s obsession. Lindsay gave Addison and Olivia her soul, and all of the love and affection that one was capable of. If you knew Lindsay, it was the norm for Lindsay to pack the girls up for a morning at the zoo before taking them to lunch. Lindsay might have even found time to take the girls for a quick spin around Target and Home Goods before heading home. It was Lindsay’s desire to help Addison and Olivia to grow to become kind and loving human beings. Lindsay’s memory resonates within her children, and she leaves behind a legacy which will never be forgotten.
Lindsay will be kindly and lovingly remembered by her husband, Brian Gavin; children, Addison and Olivia; Parents Bill (Kay) Miller; Sister Meghan Miller (Mitchell McIntyre) and their son Jack; Aunt Lynn Thompson (James Gibbons); Parents (in-law) Walter (Carol) Gavin; Brother (in-law) Jeffery Gavin (Lisa) and their children Paige and Grant; Brother (in-law) Timothy Gavin; Sister (in-law) Shawn Ward and her children Tyler, Caiden and Daniella; as well as the countless friends, colleagues, neighbors and mothers who loved and cared for Lindsay so deeply.
Lindsay would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and the entire medical team at Northwestern Hospital, who all treated Lindsay with upmost respect and compassion. Lindsay was especially thankful for FNP Kari Heideman who assisted Lindsay throughout her battle with an unparalleled level of support and comfort.
A memorial for Lindsay will be held Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646.
