He was born in Lares, Puerto Rico in 1933. Gilberto graduated from Lakeview Center and received his GED. He is married to Esther Hernandez since 1964. Gilberto worked at Baby Ruth Manufacturing and had a passion for carpentry and photography.
He is survived by his children Gilberto Hernandez Jr., Ruth Hernandez, Frederico Gomez, Josephine Pruett, and Dania Hernandez; grandchildren Angel Christopher Valdez, Joshua, Matthew, and Claire Hernandez. Great grandchildren Hailey Eaves, Lilianna and Jack Flebbe, Elijah and Samantha Pruett, Alyanna Chavez, and Jacob Umpierrez; as well as his siblings Maria Roman Quintana and Maria Betancourt Hernandez.
