Beatriz Salazar

Beatriz Salazar died in her Chicago home, on April 10, 2023, at the age of 89 years.

Beatriz was born in Rancho Jesús María, near Tlaltenango de Sánchez Román, in southern Zacatecas, Mexico. Her parents, Jesús and Felipa, were farmers and ranchers, and Beatriz and her five siblings grew up in a small, rural home, living a life typical of a small Mexican ranch.

Beatriz met Anastacio Salazar, from a neighboring village, and they were married on November 7, 1951. They began a family, having a total of 13 children, of whom 11 survived to adulthood and 10 survive to this day. After their first two children were born, they moved to Mexico City, where their children were raised. In the 1970s, they moved to California, and ultimately to Chicago. In Mexico City, Beatriz worked endless hours to care for and raise a large family; in California, she worked with her husband and older children in the fields to assure that her family would be well cared for; and in Chicago, she worked as an industrial seamstress until a workplace accident forced her retirement. In her youth, prominent among her joys was singing with her friends, which later she continued with her husband and children.

Beatriz and Anastacio created a home full of joy for their children, and later grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in which one conversed and laughed endlessly. A particular passion was cooking and eating, always assuring that plenty of food was on the table for everyone in the home. Beatriz ran the household to the joy of all, with amazing energy. She suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in 2005, but she stayed vibrant following the hemorrhage, but declined in the last months of her life after her husband’s passing.

Beatriz set a stellar, lifelong example as a good daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the matriarch of a large family, which was held together by her intense dedication and enthusiasm. Her greatest joy was that of seeing her family all together, in moments of celebration, laughter, jokes, and all of the moments that make up a life. She will be remembered for her sweetness, which was shared and enjoyed by all who were around her.

Beatriz was preceded in death by her husband Anastacio by only ten months, after more than 70 years of marriage. She is survived by her siblings Pascual and Asunción. Her surviving children include Juan Ignacio (Luisa, deceased), Rosa María (Town), Juan Francisco (Teresita), Librado (Chayo), Ismael (Aracely), Eduardo (Irma), José Isidro, Anastacio (Lupita), María del Carmen (Raciel), José de Jesús (Wendy) and Barbarita Salazar. She is survived also by 34 grandchildren (Tiffany, Fyonna, Mily, Danny, Juan Francisco, Rodrigo, Marco Antonio, Salvador Librado, Miguel Angel, Arturo Rey, Juan Rafael, Ismael, Evelyn, Isaac, Jazmín, Margarita, Eduardo Josué, Anastacio Manuel, Ignacio Brian, Ricardo, Armando, Jesus, Jaqueline, Abigail, Emiliano, Aileen, Raciel, Victoria, Mateo, Leticia, Marco Antonio, César, Priscilla, Sofía, Elizabeth, and José de Jesús) and 26 great-grandchildren (Aristea, Azurra, Arisela, Amadeus, Arius, Adonis, Amethyst, Khaleesi, Danerys, Caleb, Abraham, Santiago, Ezekiel, Isaac, Ezra, Gabriel, Lionel, Chelsea, Lucas, Jonah, Liliana, Jesús Martín, Emery, Atreyu, Kainoa, Sarahi).

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm., at Ridge Funeral Home, (Edward A. Tylka, Manager), 6620 W. Archer Ave., Chicago, IL 60638. Sra. Beatriz Salazar falleció en su casa en Chicago, la tarde del 10 de Abril del 2023, a la edad de 89 años.

Beatriz nació en el Rancho Jesús María, Tlaltenango de Sánchez Román, en la parte sur de Zacatecas, México. Junto con sus padres, Jesús y Felipa, Beatriz y sus cinco hermanos crecieron en una casa típica de un rancho Mexicano.

Beatriz conoció a Anastacio Salazar, de un pueblo vecino, y se casaron el 7 de noviembre de 1951. Juntos formaron una familia, teniendo 13 hijos, de los cuales 11 crecieron a ser adultos y 10 sobreviven hasta el presente. Vivieron en la Ciudad de México, en California y finalmente en Chicago. En la Ciudad de México, Beatriz creó a su familia a través de largos días de tareas domésticas; en California, ayudó a sostener a su familia como trabajadora agrícola; y en Chicago trabajó en costura industrial.

El hogar de Beatriz and Anastacio era lugar pleno de hijos, y luego de nietos y bisnietos, en donde uno comía y platicaba y reía sin fin. Beatriz sacó adelante su hogar con una energía impresionante, hasta que en 2005 padeció de un derrame cerebral, del cual recuperó totalmente. Beatriz continuo vivita durante más que 17 años, sólo en declive en sus últimos meses, después de perder a su esposo.

Tras su deceso, Beatriz se encontrará con su esposo Anastacio, de más de 70 años de matrimonio. A Beatriz le sobreviven dos hermanos, Pascual y Asunción. El velorio se llevará a cabo en Ridge Funeral Home, (6620 W. Archer Ave., Chicago), de 3 de la tarde a 8 de la noche, el jueves 13 de abril de 2023. La misa se llevará a cabo a las 11:30 de la mañana, el viernes 14 de abril de 2023, en la iglesia Nuestra Señora de las Nieves (4810 S. Leamington Ave., Chicago). El sepelio seguirá después de la misa, en el cementerio Mt. Auburn (4101 S Oak Park Ave., Chicago).
