He was a faithful member of East Brainerd Church of Christ. He was retired from Dupont. He was a board member for the Dupont Credit Union. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII and an active member of American Legion Post 40, Ringgold, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and his beloved grandson, Richard Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margaret Langston Harris, two daughters, Wanda (Randall) Hughes, Lynda (J.R.) Kilgore and one granddaughter, two grandsons, six great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Holdiman.
He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many. He never met a stranger, and always had a story to tell. He loved the Lord and his church and was a “strong” Democrat.
Daddy’s way of talking about dying was “When I take the ‘big trip.’” Now he is on his way. He finished the race, a wonderful example of love and faith.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm Monday, November 26, 2018 in the funeral home chapel with Minister John Cupp officiating.
