Mrs. Baker was a graduate of Ludlow High School in Kentucky. She had been employed with Keefe Plumbing; was a Dental Assistant; and had worked a number of years for TVA as a clerk and stenographer.
She began playing the piano in 1930. Mrs. Baker was a member of Brainerd Hills Presbyterian Church for many years. She played both piano and organ there for decades and continued to share music until her death. When she was 80 years old, she hosted an exchange student from Thailand, and they made music together for a year.
She was preceded in death by her husband George K. Baker; and sisters, Loene Harvey and Jean Miller.
Survivors include her children, Stephen (Kathleen) Baker of Coeburn, VA, Larry (Kay) Branton of Charlotte, NC, and Betsy (Allen) Chesney of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Charissa (Michael) Sethman of Chattanooga, TN, Mark (Amanda) Baker of Winston-Salem, NC, and Paul (Brittney) Baker of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren, Audi, Sparrow, Scarlett, Everett, Signe, Amelia, Florence, and Edison; a dear cousin Johanna Starnz of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel with Rev. Gerald Ashley and Rev. Stephen Baker officiating.
Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.
