It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Gilliam, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Joe slipped away peacefully on March 29, 2025, just days shy of his 81st birthday.
Joe was born on April 14, 1944, to Joseph Lear Gilliam, Sr. and Katherine Gilliam. A brother to Sandra and Jerry. His brother Jerry predeceased him, leaving lasting memories etched in his heart.
Love blossomed for Joe in 1966 when he married the love of his life, Charlotte Gilliam. Their bond of love was strongly felt by their two daughters, Teresa (Mike) Collake and Lisa (David) Dickinson, who survive him. Joe's love also extended to his grandchildren, William, Brandon, Daniel Dickinson, Matt (Victoria), and Alex Collake, who will remember their pawpaw with love and respect.
Joe’s life was defined by simplicity and love for his family. His home was his sanctuary. A lover of guns and coffee, he was also an avid fisherman who spent countless peaceful hours fishing on Lake Chickamauga. His spirit, love for life, and the twinkle in his eye will be greatly missed.
Joe is also survived by his sister Sandra (Bobby) Terrell, who will forever cherish the memories of their time together. His wife, Charlotte, remains to honor his memory and their bond of love.
As we say goodbye to Joseph “Joe” Gilliam, Jr., we remember a man who loved deeply, lived simply, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of his loved ones. Though he has left us, his memory lives on in his family and his legacy of love and simplicity.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 till 1:30 Thursday, April 3, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
