Col. Joseph Lynn Paramore George Sr., 82, of McDonald, TN, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019. A native of Dale County, AL, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Dorothy Windham George, but grew up in Columbus, GA and has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 23 years.
He served two tours of Vietnam before retiring from the U.S. Army as a full bird-colonel after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Cleveland, TN., and received his bachelor’s degree from Southern Miss University and also his master’s degree from Babson College in Massachusetts. After retirement he worked for Ronco Consulting working in Foreign aid traveling the world.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Humphreys “Sam” George; five children, Joe (Sarah) George Jr., Tracy (Joylin) George, Eric George, Jennifer Lynn George Shirley and Karin (Doug) George Manhardt; nine grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Broad Street United Methodist Church at: 155 Central Ave., N.W., Cleveland, TN 37311 or to the Alzheimer’s Association at: alz.org
The family will receive friends Monday at the church from 12 noon till the time of service.
A celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Betsy Switzer officiating.
Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by members of the Ft. Campbell 101st Airborne.
