John E. Fowler, formerly of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, October 29. Mr. Fowler, born on February 15, 1931, in Ringgold Georgia, to John Fowler and Amanda Holcomb Fowler, married his high school sweetheart, Aileen Brown, who in 1995 preceded him in death after 43 years of marriage. In 2006, he was blessed to find love in the person of Wilma Swift, whose late husband, Charles Ray Swift, was the physician for the Fowler family for years.
Mr. Fowler served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, then obtained his degree from the University of Chattanooga in 1958. He later founded the Chattanooga accounting firm of Fowler, Perlman & Associates. He also served as minister of music at East Lake Baptist Church in the 1960’s and served as interim music director at several other Chattanooga area churches.
He is survived by his son, David Fowler, who practiced law in Chattanooga and served in the Tennessee Senate from 1994 to 2006, and his wife, Linda Fowler; a granddaughter, Allison (nee Fowler) Scott, of Tehachapi, California; and great-grandchildren, Summer, Camden and Tinley; several nieces and nephews; and step-children, Steven Swift and Sylvia Swift Hawkins.
A Graveside Service for Mr. Fowler will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
