He was born in Sweetwater, TN to the late Thomas Lee and Irene Tallent. His son, Eddie Tallent and sister, Joyce Divine precede him in death.
James worked for McKee Foods for over 30 years, where he retired as a long haul truck driver. He really enjoyed his job and the comradery he had with his trucking buddies. He also received the Million Mile Award for safe driving and being accident free.
James loved fishing, hunting, camping, wood working, gardening and animals (especially his fur babies), but what he loved the most was spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Lois Jean Tallent; daughters, Diane Bates (Greg), Gail Tallent (Mike Hood), Tammy Wood (Jody); grandchildren, Mark Bates, Danya Bellony, Ashley McQueen (Sean), Casey McKenzie (Brooke), Logan Wood (Christina), Courtney Burdett (Ryan), Trey Tallent (Keri); 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nola Jones and Loy Tallent.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the funeral home with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating.
Interment will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, Tennessee.
