Jack was born on February 15, 1938, in Birmingham, AL to Jack and Lillian (Ingram) Reid. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958 in the Military Police.
He attended night classes at Chattanooga State Technical Institute while working as a land surveyor during the day until he received his Associates Degree in Civil Engineering. He eventually took over ownership of the Chattanooga Surveying Company. He took great pride in his 65-year career as a land surveyor, from which he never retired.
Jack married twice and raised two daughters, Tina and Jennifer, and a stepdaughter, Terri.
Jack had a passion for drawing and painting, where he used his drafting skills to create extraordinary art. His various works, both abstract and figurative, were admired by friends, family, peers and instructors. He loved music from the 1950’s, particularly jazz and big band, including his favorite artist, Frank Sinatra. Jack also loved tennis, where he met some of his closest friends and played in a competitive USTA league. He was also a lifelong fan of the Tennessee Volunteers.
He was known for his infectious smile, his contagious laughter, his constant flattery and flirting, his ability to turn anything into a joke, and his devotion to family.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Jack; his mother, Lillian; and five of his siblings, Jean, Geneva, James, Van, and Wayne.
Jack is survived by his sisters, Nancy and Cindy; his daughters, Tina and Jennifer; his stepdaughter, Terri; his grandson, Bryson, and various nieces, nephews and cousins.
