David was born February 6, 1944 in Leavenworth, KS. After the family moved to Hutchinson, KS, David performed with the Chorale Ensemble at Hutchinson High School. He met his wife of 54 years, Carolyn, while in Hutch. He served in the U.S. Navy with the “SeaBees” in Vietnam. Together, David and Carolyn had 4 children. David was a 30 year partner / CEO of HBG Enterprises in Chattanooga. He was a founding member of CSME and life member of TVRM.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mildred Porter, brothers Richard and Larry Porter. He leaves his wife Carolyn (Lord), children Charlene (Charlie) Patton, Cara (John) Woodall, David, Jr., and Christine Clay. Grandchildren Nicholas Porter, Sara (David) King, Michael Patton, Caleb and Joshua Woodall, Kelsey and Alex Porter, Hope and Hailey Clay. Sisters- in-law Lois Porter, Shirley Porter, Marge Gilley, Sheryl Lord, brother-in- law Harold Gilley, plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and Monday 1200-1:00 p.m. with funeral service immediately following at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Hwy, Chattanooga, TN. Burial will be at the National Cemetery.
