CHATHAM – Robert (Bob) W. Stanley, 74, of Chatham, MA, formerly of Montreal, QC, Canada, died Thursday, November 9th, at Harbor Point of Centerville, after a 12 year battle with dementia. He was the beloved husband of Andrea Kirsten Stanley (nee Dietz) for over 50 years.
Bob graduated from Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, in May 1964, before moving to Arvida, QC to begin a long and distinguished career in the Canadian mining and metallurgy industry. After living in Arvida, Bob relocated his family to Montreal, where he started work with the Noranda Research Center. He received numerous patents and accolades for his innovations in hydrometallurgical research. In 1997, Bob became the Vice President and General Manager of Noranda Sampling Inc. in East Providence, RI. He retired in June 2008 to his summer home in Chatham where he enjoyed taking walks and spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife, Kirsten, and three children, Robert Jr. (Lynn), Joanna (Tom) and Alexandra (Craig). He leaves behind 9 grandchildren – Matthew, Kaitlin & Derek Stanley; Alexandra & Christopher Gritter; and Kyle, Katherine, Megan & Lauren Gabri. He is also survived by his brother, Ross Stanley (Joan) of Nova Scotia, and nephews Ryan and Brent.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Harbor Point of Centerville, and Broad Reach Hospice for their kind, compassionate care during his illness.
Funeral service will be held on December 28th, at 10:00 am at Holy Redeemer Church, 57 Highland Ave, Chatham. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Chatham.
