“Chatham Senior Citizen of the Year”
Lloyd F. “Duke” Nelson age 88 of Orleans formerly of Chatham active in the Masonic Fraternity and a long time employee of the Coca Cola Company died Feb. 25, 2010 at Cape Cod Hospital.
Lloyd “Duke” was born in Warwick R.I. and attended Rhode Island Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during WW 11 and worked for the Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Cranston R.I. for over 35 yrs.
Duke moved to Chatham in 1978 and has been an active member of numerous community and church organizations. He was named Chatham Senior Citizen of the Year in 1992 and past grand marshal of the Chatham 4th of July parade. He was also an active member of the Orleans Historical Society, St. Martins Lodge A.F.&A.M. Chatham, Harmony Lodge #9 F.&A.M. Cranston R.I., Scottish Rite Valley of Boston, Allepo Shrine Temple Wilmington, and former advisory member of Cranston Rainbow #2 Alumni.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie (Mullin) Nelson of Orleans, cousins, Ann Aldrich of Scituate R.I., and Shirley Nordqust of Warwick R.I. he was predeceased by first wife Faith (Sellow) Nelson and second wife Edith (Valentine) Nelson.
A funeral service will be held Tues. March 2 at 11 am at St. Peters Lutheran Church, East Harwich. Visiting hours will be held Mon. March 1 from 2-5 PM with a Masonic Service at 5 PM in the Nickerson Funeral Home 77 ELDREDGE PARK WAY ORLEANS.
