Dave was born on May 26, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Harlan Deneen and Grace Lee (Golightly) McTaggart. He married Barbara June Cody on November 13, 1965, in Pawnee.
Dave was a Pawnee High School graduate. He proudly served in the IL Army National Guard. After 42 years as a master carpenter, he retired from RB Estill Construction. Dave loved his dogs, game shows, fast cars, country music, and using his carpentry skills to build and fix everything. His greatest enjoyment, however, was time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Golightly; and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara McTaggart of Chatham; two children, Tammy (Wayne) Shures of Rochester and David Lance (Toni) McTaggart of Chatham; six grandchildren, Brandon (Bobbi Jo) Shures of Maryland Heights, MO, Logan (Julia) McTaggart of Springfield, Haley Shures of Rochester, Jeremy (fiancée, Melanie Duncheon) Shures of Springfield, Tahnee Martin of Springfield, and Jordan Roberts of Springfield; four great-grandchildren, Taylan, Logan, “Jr.”, Theodore, and Martha; one irreplaceable brother, Harlan “Butch” McTaggart of Springfield; beloved dog, Spunky; and loving extended family, including nephew, Glenn Golightly.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home - Chatham, 8855 State Rte. 4, Chatham. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m., with Steve Landrey officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation – Springfield, or the PAWS Humane Society.
