Bill E. Streight, 83, of Chatham, passed away at 7:51 a.m. on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Regency Care. Parkinson’s disease stole Bill’s voice, strength, and mobility, but now he’s singing and dancing in the presence of his Savior.
He was born on February 21, 1941, in Monmouth, IL, the son of Delmar and Doris June Neally Streight. Bill married Karen Lee Warner on February 21, 1969, in Macomb.
Bill graduated from Monmouth High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University. He went on to work for the State of Illinois Department of Human Services, from where he retired. Bill was a deacon at Chatham Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. He was a generous giver who volunteered with Vista Corps and donated to many causes. Bill enjoyed reading (he could read an entire book in a few hours), learning, technology, connecting with friends via Facebook, coffee trips to Scoop Du Jour, and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Michael Streight.
Bill is survived by his mother, Doris Streight; wife, Karen L. Streight of Chatham; son, Micah Streight of Chatham; daughter, Bethany (Paul) Woods of St. Jacob, IL; grandchildren, Rebecca, Nelson, Lydia, Joshua, Josiah, Jeremiah, and Nathaniel Woods; sister-in-law, Shirley Streight; and many other extended family members.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Chatham Baptist Church, 1500 E. Walnut St., Chatham. A funeral ceremony will follow at 12:00 p.m with Rev. Milton Bost officiating.
Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chatham Baptist Church Building Fund.
