To say he will be missed is an understatement. Richard was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Richard was born on January 13, 1933 in Waynesboro, Virginia to the late Rolla Augusta & Virgie Shiflett Rohm. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Augusta, Archie and Donald Rohm. He is survived by his brother Jerry Rohm and sister-in-law Vivian.
Richard is also survived by the love of his life, his wife of 61 and 1/2 years, Mildred Morris Rohm and his children, Diane, Rick (Caron), Jeff and Susan. He leaves behind his grandchildren Justin, Austin, Haley (Hayden), Tre', Madeline, McKenna, Caroline, Megan and a great-grandchild Damien. Extended family includes his nephew Jerry Rohm, and niece Vanessa Rohm Peters, and special cousin Lucy Alloca.
He is also survived by brothers/sister-in-laws Harvey & Anne Page Morris, Doris Morris, Bobby Matheny, Catherine & Jimmy Rose, Virginia & Jerry Taylor and a special niece Ann Roberts and her husband Eldridge. Richard was also blessed with having Kathy Rohm, Christine Rohm, and David Dean in his life. Along with special family friends Ted & Ruth Davis, Kathy Graves, Parker Hull, Jessica Rapoport, Josh Gellner and Donna Smith.
Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War in 1953. He was based in Germany as an artillery specialist, upon returning home he was an independent/contract Logger for several years. He and his brother Archie owned an Esso station in the 60's. Richard moved on to Con Agra and retired after 29 years. Richard was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a long-standing member of The Teamsters.
Thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont for their care, with special thanks to Nina Seacrest and Chris Karls. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Richard’s name to The Hospice of the Piedmont.
A celebration of his life will be held at Aldersgate United Church on Saturday, 1 February, 2020, at 2pm, with Pastor Roger Browning providing the eulogy.
